National Pharmacy ServiceThe National Pharmacy Service of the Faroe Islands is obliged by law to import, distribute and supply medicines to the population of the Faroe Islands. Pharmacies are located in Tórshavn (Tjaldurs apotek), Klaksvík (Nordoya apotek), Tvøroyri (Suduroyar apotek) and Runavík (Eysturoyar apotek).

There are approx. 30 Pharmacy outlets distributed throughout the islands.

The three hospitals in Tórshavn (Landssjúkrahúsið), Klaksvík (Klaksvíkar Sjúkrahús) and Tvøroyri (Suðuroyar sjúkrahús) are supplied with medicines from their local pharmacies.

The National Pharmacy Service has modern production facilities, which are accrediated according to GMP standards by the Danish Medicines Agency. An Aseptic Production Unit is producing IV fluids for the Health Sector. The Galenic Production Unit manufactures various generic medicines e.g. tablets, powders and mixtures, as well as Orphan Drug preparations.

The Veterinary Production Unit serves the farming industry and the Fish Farming Industry with in-feed mixing of medicines. A separate Production Unit deals exclusively with the in-feed mixing of medicines.
